Undo Lead Conversion or Convert a Contact Back to a Lead in Salesforce

In Salesforce, once a Lead is converted into a Contact, Account, or Opportunity, the conversion is permanent and cannot be undone.

If a Lead is converted by mistake, there is no built-in feature to revert the Contact back to a Lead.

Løsning

Lead conversion is a one-way process in Salesforce. To recreate the Lead, you must manually reverse the outcome by recreating the record.


Option 1: Recreate the Lead

  1. Delete the Contact and/or Account created from the conversion (if appropriate)
  2. Manually create a new Lead record
  3. Re-enter the required data

Option 2: Enable Lead History Tracking (Preventive Measure)

To help track changes and assist with manual recovery in the future:

  1. Go to Setup
  2. Open Object Manager
  3. Select Lead
  4. Click Fields & Relationships
  5. Click Set History Tracking
  6. Enable Lead History Tracking
  7. Select fields to track
  8. Click Save

This allows you to:

  • Track changes made to Lead records
  • Generate reports on Lead history
  • Use historical data to help reconstruct records if needed
