Contacts in Interaction Studio User Segment not injecting into associated Journey

Description
When configuring an Interaction Studio User Segment to send a user to Journey Builder upon segment join, be sure to follow the documented instructions for configuring the Data Extension and Journey.

We have listed the most common issues associated to the AddToJourneyBuilderOnJoin feature below.
Résolution

Delay when selecting the AddToJourneyBuilderOnJoin option on the User Segment Setup page

  1. When selecting the AddToJourneyBuilderOnJoin option it queries Marketing Cloud for a list of active Event Definitions. This call can take additional time if there are a large number of Event Definitions. 

Not seeing the list of Journey Builder names expected

  1. The list of Journey Builder names is based on the Business Unit which has been accessed in Marketing Cloud prior to accessing Interaction Studio.
  2. Only active Journeys will display for selection. Make sure the expected Journey Builder is set to active. 

Records not added to the Journey:

  1. Verify the AddToJourneyBuilderOnJoin option is Enabled.
    • It is possible to configure the AddToJourneyBuilderOnJoin option as Disabled. Users will only be added to the associated Journey when they qualify for the User Segment after the AddToJourneyBuilderOnJoin has been set to Enabled.
  2. Verify the field names of the associated Data Extension are exactly as shown in the documentation. If the field names to not match exactly, Interaction Studio will not be able to add records to the Data Extension.
  3. Verify there are no additional required fields present on the associated Data Extension. 
    • Currently only ContactKey, EmailAddress, and SegmentName are passed to the Data Extension. Additional fields should not be set as required, even if a default value is specified for the fields.
  4. Verify the users were added to the segment after the AddToJourneyBuilderOnJoin option was configured and set to Enabled
    • The AddToJourneyBuilderOnJoin option is not retroactive. Users will only be added to the associated Journey when they qualify for the User Segment after the AddToJourneyBuilderOnJoin has been set to Enabled.
  5. Verify the users have values present for the field mapped to Marketing Cloud Contact Key in the AddToJourneyBuilderOnJoin configuration.
