Data Management Use Case Story
CloudKicks makes comfortable sneakers, designed and personalized for its customers. The company’s online retail business has grown rapidly in the past year, so it started using Salesforce to manage the sales process and centralize customer data.

Linda Rosenberg, CloudKicks’ admin, needed to quickly set up Salesforce to capture new order data. Also, because her executives wanted to get reports on past quarters, she needed to import existing spreadsheet data.

After loading the existing data for the first time, she ran a test report. She found that the report’s data summaries were far from the totals she saw in the original spreadsheet.

So Linda did a little more digging. She searched for answers, watched videos, read through guidance materials, and explored the Trailblazer Community for tips. She found that some of the potential causes were duplicate data, incomplete data, or inconsistent field standards.

When Linda reviewed the original spreadsheet, she found duplicate entries in dozens of rows. After she cleared out the duplicates, she imported her spreadsheet into Salesforce again. This time, the numbers in her report matched the spreadsheet!

This data import experience showed Linda how easy it is to get the wrong data, so she met with her managers and executives to formalize a data management plan. Together, they agreed on how to collect, name, and measure data to track progress.

As a result, the CloudKicks sales team now understands how and where to enter customer data; managers know what to expect from team performance reports; and executives trust reporting to help steer the business in the right direction.
