Territory Planning Dissolve Proximity Update

This article explains how Salesforce Maps Territory Planning has updated the Dissolve function's proximity logic, and what changed for users.

The dissolve function deletes a territory and assigns its units and containers to the closest territory. We are updating how dissolve determines which territories are nearby:

Previous State

Dissolve considers the mathematical center of nearby territories determined by their furthest outlying units. This worked for the majority of business cases; however, if a territory contained a lot of outlier units or units that crossed a large body of water (e.g., Territories that span from California to Alaska in the United States), dissolve could produce unexpected results.

Current State

Dissolve considers the Area Center of nearby territories. By default, this will be the geographic center of the territory, which is similar to, the mathematical center, but is not as susceptible to outliers. Users can update the area center of a territory, which will be considered in the dissolve process to influence the dissolve behavior.
