NOTE: As of February 1, 2025 any unregistered traffic will be blocked by the carriers in the ecosystem. In order to send registered traffic you must create a brand and campaign and assign your phone number to a campaign.
The messaging ecosystem has been working hard on creating a better messaging experience for companies that want to communicate using local phone numbers. A2P 10-digit long codes (10DLC) has been specially designed and sanctioned for this purpose, allowing businesses to send sanctioned A2P messaging traffic over local phone numbers. This service offers messaging that is ready for both high-volume and high delivery needs.
Until this point, A2P traffic in the US has been reserved for toll free numbers and short code numbers. The US long codes widely used by businesses in previous years were only ever designed for person-to-person (P2P) communications. With this industry enhancement, we are expanding the available options for A2P messaging.
To ensure designation of brands and long codes with carrier partners, we will now be using an industry Registry as the central authority for business messaging. The Registry will identify 10-digit long codes (10DLC) associated with the brand for providing a higher quality of delivery of your messages.
Carriers will still have filters on these numbers, but they will be less strict.
If you are a current U.S. messaging customer using long codes, or a non-U.S. customer using long codes with a +1 country code, you could be messaging to a US carrier network. With this change, and to provide your +1 long codes with a higher quality of message delivery throughput for select carriers, we will need your help so that we can register your brand and long codes. Please note, this registration will be requested for both A2P, as well as P2P use cases.
