Maps Live Mobile Tracking Initial Configuration

Configuration Steps:

  1. Ensure you are assigned to a Maps Permission Group with the “Live Mobile Tracking” permission enabled.
  2. Once logged into the Salesforce Maps Mobile App, select the Settings gear in the top left corner and turn on the Live Location toggle.
  3. Navigate to Setup → Installed Packages → Configure Salesforce Maps
  4. Navigate to the Devices Management tab under the Maps Live Tracking heading on the menu modal on the left side of your screen.
  5. Select Salesforce Maps Mobile, then select Next.
  6. This will list each device that has logged into the Maps Mobile app and enabled the Live Tracking toggle.
    1. Note: Only devices that have reported in the last 90 days will appear in this list.
  7. Select the Create Record button next to each device record listed. This will create a Maps Live IoT Device record.
  8. Once all Maps Live IoT Device records are created, navigate to the Base Objects tab under the Maps Live Tracking heading.
  9. Select Create New and check the “View All Salesforce Objects” box. Then, select the Maps Live IoT Device Record
  10. Name the new base object something descriptive, like Live Mobile Tracking Users. Leave the address location as This Object. Navigate to the Device Vendor field and map this to Device Vendor, and to the Device ID field and map this to the Device ID. Select Save at the bottom of the page.
  11. Next, open Salesforce Maps. Select a folder, then select the blue “New” button. Select Live Layer, then select the Live Base object we created in Step #10.
  12. Name your layer, filter as needed, and select Save and Plot. You are now able to view your Live Tracking Users on the map.
