FAQ

Building Apps in MCI

Q: I want to build an app on MCI. Where do I start?
A: You must first become a MCI Partner. First, send an email to the MCI ISV Partners team. From there, the MCI Partnership team will get back to you and assign you a Partner Manager, who will then guide you through the rest of the process.

Q: What type of development work is possible as a partner?
A: MCI apps are single-page web applications that are hosted and run inside the MCI platform. Partners can build rich web applications that use the MCI JS SDK and interact with the MCI platform and query AP. MCI hosts and serves the static resources of these web applications (e.g. HTML, CSS, JS, image, fonts). If a partner wants its own server side, they can integrate the app with that as well and host the server elsewhere.

Q: What is the dev environment to create apps? What kinds of skills do you need?
A: You can use any IDE to build the app e.g. IntelliJ, WebStorm, Atom, VSCode, Eclipse. Apps can be built in JavaScript, or with a framework such as React, Angular, Ember, Vue etc. If you’re a web developer with experience in HTML/CSS/JavaScript, then you can build an app. Our recommendation is to build apps with React, as this is the stack MCI uses for its in-house apps.

Q: Once the solution is built, will it be available on AppExchange?
A: Yes, apps can be listed on Appexchange. However, may choose whether you'd like your solution to be available to specific accounts only. If so, it will not be made public on AppExchange.
