Error "Business unit [xxx] cannot be deleted because it has one or more users associated with it." when Deleting Marketing Cloud Business Unit

When you try to delete a business unit in the marketing cloud, you may experience the following error:

"Business unit [xxx] cannot be deleted because it has one or more users associated with it."

This error indicates that there are users associated with the business unit. Follow the steps outlined below to remove the association for any user before deleting the business unit.
Løsning
This error occurs when one or more users are associated with the business unit. In order to resolve this issue, follow the following steps to find all users associated with the business unit:
  • Navigate to Setup in Marketing Cloud.
  • Click on Business Units.
  • Select the checkbox for the business unit and click on View Users.
Make note of the users that are associated with that business unit. To remove the association, follow these steps:
  • In Setup, Click Users > Users under Administration.
  • For each user that is associated with the business unit you, select their checkbox and click Manage Business Units.
  • De-select that business unit under Associated Business Units.
  • Click on Save.
Note: You will have to repeat the same steps if there are multiple users associated with a business unit.

Now go back to Business Units under Administration. Select the checkbox for the business unit and click Delete.
