Quip Verification Email

Quip will be releasing a new verification method for provisioned users in the admin console. This will apply to newly created users and existing users that require a new email to be appended to their Quip Accounts through the Admin Console. Quip is tightening security standards with this Email Verification, and making this adjustment to ensure that newly added accounts verify their email before accessing any Quip contents they have been added to.

What this will look like:
When Quip Admins provision a new Quip account in the admin console, Users will receive an email titled “Join your Team on Quip”  which will allow the user to authenticate the request and login to their new Quip account. Clicking this button will route the user to create a unique Quip password and will log the user into their account.

If Users are provisioned in a Quip site that has SAML assigned with an Identity Provider, the user will not need to create a unique Quip password and will be able to login with their corresponding credentials.

Provisioned users will show under the Provisioned tab within the Site Members page in the Quip Admin Console. If users are still showing as "Provisioned" or "Provisioned (Pending Email Verification)" the User will need to check their inbox to verify their new account. Admins currently cannot force login a User within our system.

FAQ:
  • When Admins Provision a New Quip account, Admins have an option to include a customizable email when creating the new account.
  • When an Admin provisions a User and decides to unselect the customizable email, the User will still receive the Verification Email within their inbox.
    • If the Admin chooses to select and send the customizable email when provisioning an Account, the User will receive two separate emails. One will be the Welcome to Quip Email and the second email will be the Verification Email.
  • The verification email will be sent out to the user with all types of provisioning in Quip and with SCIM.
  • For sites that have SAML configured to their Quip Site, users will still receive the verification email and it may lead the user to an error page due to the set SAML credentials.
    • If the site has Auto-Add Enabled and the domain set on the Quip site, as mentioned in the point below, the User will not receive an Email Verification.
  • For sites that have Auto-Add enabled as their Domain Policy, the verification email should not be sent out to their provisioned users as long as the domain is listed on the Site.
    • I.e., If the Domain on the site is test123456.com and the Domain Policy is set to Auto-Add, users will not receive an email when provisioned, but if a gmail.com user is added to the site they will receive a Verification Email.
  • If a User references the old email with the verification link, it will send the user to a page that shows they are all set.
  • When new Users are Provisioned in the Admin Console, they will be listed under the Provisioned section.
  • For Users that have not completed the verification email, their account in the Quip Admin Console will show as “Provisioned (Pending Email Verification)”.
    • This will continue to show until the user checks their inbox and verifies the request.
  • Users may need to check their spam and deleted files for the email.
    • Companies may need to review the inbox spam filter to ensure Quip emails are not being excluded.
  • If Users login with an unverified email, they will receive an error message that shows “The email address is not a member of the site.”
