Marketing Cloud Intelligence - Data Reimmersion

Reimmersion is the process of taking data that is already in the platform and exporting it, in order to add it into a new Data Stream.

Technically, setting up data reimmersion consists of three steps:

1. Generate a report containing the relevant data.
2. Use the above Report to create a new Data Stream.
3. Schedule the above Report so that it is fed into the relevant Data Stream automatically.

Common Use Cases of Re-Immersion:

1. ReImmersion as a scaling tool for mapping formula classification:
  • When multiple data streams require a uniform classification using Mapping Formulas, it can be cumbersome to apply and maintain the logic separately for each of the relevant Data Streams.
  • Any update or change in the classification logic would necessitate:
    • Modifying each of the relevant Data Streams’ Mapping
    • Reprocessing each of the relevant Data Streams
  1. Generate a Report containing the fields necessary for classification.
  2. Reimmerse the above Report into a new Data Stream.
  3. Apply the classification logic to the mapping of the Data Stream created in Step 2.
  4. Use Parent Child/ Data Fusion/ Cross-Channel Entities to tie the classification into the original dataset.

2. Reimmersion to optimize widget performance:
  • When a large number of Calculated Measurements and Calculated Dimensions is used in several Widgets on the same page, it can hinder the performance of those Widgets.
  • We can use reimmersion to export specific views of calculated values and map them as Native Measurements within new Data Streams.
  • Doing so would mean that when the newly created Native Measurements are referenced in Widgets, no calculations need to be made behind the scenes.

3. Reimmersion as a maintenance solution for Vlookup-to-classification sheets:

  • Reimmersion is extremely useful when there is a need to use Vlookup in the mapping of multiple Data Streams, or alternatively, when the Classification Sheet is updated frequently.
  • Without reimmersion, any change made to the Classification Sheet would require a complete reprocess of the relevant Data Streams in order to apply the required changes to the relevant data.

A better option would be to use reimmersion to create a designated Classification Data Stream, as follows:
  1. Generate a report containing the relevant Entity Keys
  2. Reimmerse the above Report into a new Data Stream containing the relevant Vlookup formula
  3. Whenever the Classification Sheet is updated, reimmerse only the 'Dimensions Only' Data Stream Created in Step 2.
