Error Thrown When Editing CRM Analytics Dashboards Owned by Another User in Lightning Experience

Publiseringsdato: Jun 26, 2026
Beskrivelse

This article addresses an issue where an error is thrown in Lightning Experience when a user attempts to edit a Dashboard owned by another user. This typically occurs due to insufficient sharing permissions or ownership restrictions on the Dashboard record

Løsning

An error appears when a user tries to edit a Dashboard that belongs to a different user in Lightning Experience.

Root Cause

Dashboard editing permissions in Lightning Experience are tied to Dashboard ownership. Users who are not the owner must be granted explicit edit access via sharing settings.

Resolution Steps

  1. Navigate to the Dashboard in Lightning Experience.
  2. Click the dropdown arrow on the Dashboard and select Share.
  3. Grant the user Can Edit access.
  4. Alternatively, the Dashboard owner or Admin can transfer ownership via Setup > Dashboards.
  5. If the running user's role is below the editor of the dashboard:The editor needs 'View My Team’s Dashboards'. This permission allows them to edit dashboards where the running user is beneath them in the role hierarchy
  6. If the running user's role is above or equal to the editor of the dashboard:The editor needs 'View All Data'.

Note

This behavior is by design. CRM Analytics and Lightning Experience Dashboards enforce ownership-based edit restrictions.
