A first-time Outlook Integration user is greeted with a welcome mat — an introductory pop-up tour that highlights the various features available in Outlook Integration. After the welcome mat is shown, the Outlook Integration app updates an internal field on the user's record so the welcome mat is not displayed again on future logins. When a custom validation rule on the User object prevents this internal field update, the FIELD_CUSTOM_VALIDATION_EXCEPTION error is displayed.

Why This Happens

The error message can be closed, and the user can continue using Outlook Integration normally. However, since the underlying user record update keeps failing, the welcome mat will be displayed again every time that user logs in, along with this validation rule error and possibly other related error messages.

What Admins Should Do

Admins encountering this repeatedly for a user should review the custom validation rules on the User object to identify which one is blocking the internal field update triggered by Outlook Integration, and adjust that rule so the update is permitted.
