This article explains the steps a new user takes to set their password and register a multi-factor authentication (MFA) verification method the first time they log in to a Salesforce org that requires MFA.
Click the link in the "Welcome to Salesforce" email to set your password.
Set a password and confirm that you can log in.
Click the profile icon in the upper right corner  > Settings.
Enter "Advanced User Details" in the Quick Find box, then select Advanced User Details.
Proceed with registration using one of the following methods:

If you log out or close the browser before completing verification method setup, you are prompted to connect a verification method at your next login.
