Salesforce for Android and iOS users can send SMS text messages from the Accounts, Contacts, Leads, and Person Accounts objects when a formatted phone number is available.

 

Note: The Send Text action is a Quick Action that must be added to the Mobile & Lightning Actions section of the object's page layout by an Admin. Once added to the page layout, the action appears in the Salesforce Mobile App.

Considerations for sending SMS text messages in Salesforce for Android and iOS

  • A listed phone number must be available on the page layout and contain a valid number for the Send Text action to appear.
  • The Send Text action is limited to phone fields only, similar to the Call Action.
  • Admins can remove the Send Text Quick Action from the Mobile & Lightning Actions section in the page layout to prevent end users from accessing this feature.
  • Sent text messages are currently not saved in the activity history of the record.
  • The action does not work on iPad due to limitations with SMS messaging on iPad.
