Starting in the 23.1 release, the B2C Commerce platform offers a streamlined way to access on-demand sandboxes. This new approach uses a unified hostname, eliminating the need to remember the specific cluster associated with each sandbox. This enhancement simplifies access and improves usability, particularly in scenarios involving sandbox migration between clusters.
Previously, accessing an on-demand sandbox (ODS) required a URL that included both the sandbox's specific cluster and instance ID. Clusters, typically designated as us01, us02, eu01, etc., were a part of the URL, making them longer and more complex. For example:
https://xxxx-yyy.sandbox.us02.dx.commercecloud.salesforce.com/on/demandware.store/Sites-Site
With the new unified URL structure, the need to specify the cluster is removed:
<realm>-<instanceId>.dx.commercecloud.salesforce.com
This shorter, more streamlined URL format enhances usability and is particularly beneficial during sandbox migrations. For instance:
https://xxxx-yyy.dx.commercecloud.salesforce.com/on/demandware.store/Sites-Site
Consider an on-demand sandbox traditionally accessed via a cluster-specific URL:
https://abcd-060.sandbox.us02.dx.commercecloud.salesforce.com/on/demandware.store/Sites-Site
With the unified URL approach, this would be streamlined to:
https://abcd-060.dx.commercecloud.salesforce.com/on/demandware.store/Sites-Site
This change significantly simplifies the process of accessing and managing sandboxes in Salesforce Commerce Cloud.
The introduction of a unified, cluster-agnostic URL for accessing on-demand sandboxes in Salesforce Commerce Cloud represents a significant step in improving user experience. It simplifies the process, ensures consistency, and provides flexibility, especially during sandbox migrations. This update underlines Salesforce's commitment to enhancing usability and efficiency in the Commerce Cloud environment.
