HOW RATE LIMIT WORKS IN EXCHANGE

Like the whole rest of Anypoint Platform, Exchange is also protected against excessive requests by imposing rate limits.
Here we have some important point to consider related to rate limit in Exchange:

  • Any request to /exchange will be considered against Exchange product
GET https://anypoint.mulesoft.com/exchange/*
  • The rate limit will be imposed by Load balancers and they can be resulted in HTTP errors such as 429, 500 or 503.
HTTP/1.1 503 Service Temporarily Unavailable
  • Rate limit values can vary over the time and these values are not disclosed
  • The limits imposed are the same for all endpoints (/exchange/assets, /exchange/create etc), but there are certain endpoints that will be rate limited faster on the actual services. For example, creation or deletion of assets, which is a costly operation and requires many accesses to Auth Server which will be rating limiting requests as well.
  • Exchange rate limit works on a fixed time window, so the number of requests sent in a burst can actually be higher, say we allow 100 requests per minute, but you could send 100 requests at 10:00:59 and then send other 100 requests 2 seconds later, at 10:01:01, and you could measure that as 200 requests per minute.
