Engagement - How to Manually Refresh Synchronized Objects/Data Extensions in Contact Builder

Publish Date: May 28, 2026
Description

Outside of the initial configuration, records are not evaluated for synchronization to the Marketing Cloud Engagement until the Modified Date is changed via a record update.

Important: Formula Field Limitation

Updates to formula fields do not trigger a change to the Modified Date on a record, and will not trigger a re-synchronization.

Performing a manual refresh will trigger a re-sync of all records in the CRM, regardless of the last modified date. If you find you are missing expected contacts within a synchronized data extension - such as contacts that have been deleted in the Marketing Cloud Engagement but not Salesforce - follow the steps below:

Resolution
  1. Log in to Marketing Cloud Engagement
  2. Navigate to Contact Builder > Data Sources > Synchronized > [desired data source]
  3. Click the Refresh icon (↺) located above the Pause/Resume Sync button in the upper-right corner
  4. The object will begin to resynchronize. Depending on the number of records being evaluated, this may take some time. A progress bar will indicate the number of records synced vs remaining. This re-sync evaluates all records in the CRM regardless of their last modified date, which is why it resolves cases where records were deleted in Marketing Cloud but still exist in Salesforce.
