In a typical scenario, activations with an 'Incremental' refresh type will remove records from their data target (Ex: Marketing Cloud data extension) once they are no longer present in a segment.
In the rare scenario that the gap in between two incremental publishes is greater than 30 days, the activation engine will consider each segment member as new. As a result, profiles/records that are no longer present in the segment will not be removed from their data target, which can lead to higher than expected audiences.
To avoid this behavior, ensure that incremental activations are published at least once every 30 days.
If this is not possible, then it is recommended that the 'Full Refresh' refresh type is used, as this will lead to an overwrite of the data target, avoiding missed deletions.
