How to change a Tableau Cloud site name and the URL.

Trinn
Tableau Cloud Management (TCM) does not currently offer a direct "rename site" feature. For information on renaming a Tableau Cloud Manager (TCM) Tenant, please reference this article.

For Site renames, see below for potential workaround options:

Option 1: Use Tableau Cloud Manager (TCM) Rest API to Update Site Name

As of August 2025, Tableau Cloud site name and url's can be updated using the TCM Rest API. Review the following documentation for more information: TCM Rest API-Update site name and content url

Option 2: Contact Tableau Customer Service

If Option 1 above is not feasible or you encounter issues during the process, please contact customerservice@tableau.com to submit a Tableau Cloud site rename request. Please note that the request must be made by the Tableau Cloud Site Admin with the following details included:

  • Current Tableau Cloud Site Name
  • Desired Tableau Cloud Site Name

Option 3: Create New Site with Desired Name and Migrate Content
As another possible self service option, a TCM Cloud Administrator can follow this alternative process (NOTE: This option may not be feasible or ideal for sites with a large amount of users/content):

  1. Create a new site with your desired name in your Tableau Cloud Manager (TCM) environment
  2. Export all content from your original site (If you have an Advanced Management license, you can streamline this process using the Content Migration Tool)
  3. Import your exported content to the newly created site
  4. Delete your original site (note: users will immediately lose access while the site enters a 30-day suspended state during which you can reactivate it if needed; after 30 days, all content will be permanently deleted)
  5. Verify your new site contains all necessary content and is functioning properly

Note:
1. If you have the site bookmarked, it needs to be updated since the URL will change.

2. If you have Tableau Cloud view displayed in Salesforce using Lightning Web Components, Tableau site ID needs to be updated in host mapping section. Please refer to the Online Help topic for details. Update the Viz URL of the embedded Tableau site.

3. Any embedded views using the full URL will also need to be updated once the site is renamed.
