A ".tdsx" is a packaged data source file that contains any local file data such as the extract, text files, and local cube files.  This format can be created by following the instructions located here.  Once the packaged data source is created, the file is typically located in the My Tableau Repository under the My Documents folder.  If using the default path, the *.tdsx will reside in the My Tableau Repository > Datasources > version, where version is the Tableau Desktop version used.  Your Tableau files can be saved to any location including your desktop or a network directory.

Option 1: Using extraction tool such as 7-Zip
  1. Download data source if published
  2. Right click on the *.tdsx file
  3. Select 7-Zip > Extract files
  4. Select a location and click OK
  5. Go to the extracted folder
  6. Right click on the *.tds file and open it in a text editor (for example in Notepad++)
  7. Details are displayed
Option 2: Using Windows extraction
  1. Download data source if published
  2. Right click on the *.tdsx file and select Rename
  3. Replace *.tdsx with *.zip
  4. Click OK
  5. Right click on the file and choose Extract All
  6. Select a location and click OK
  7. Go to the extracted folder
  8. Right click on the *.tds file and open it in a text editor (for example in Notepad++)
  9. Details are displayed
