Starting with Tableau Desktop 2021.4, the default browser on the machine (external browser to Desktop) is launched for the sign-in to Tableau Server instead of using the embedded browser inside Tableau Desktop. This article is for IT or Server Administrators and will provide instructions on going back to the previous method of using the embedded browser with Tableau Desktop and to not use the machine's default browser.
Use the following Tableau Server TSM command. This setting applies to all server users across all sites.
tsm configuration set -k wgserver.authentication.desktop_externalbrowser -v false tsm pending-changes apply
"C:\Program Files\Tableau\Tableau <Version number>\bin\tableau.exe" -DOverride=ExternalBrowserOAuth:off
open -a "/Applications/Tableau Desktop 2020.3.app" --args -DOverride=ExternalBrowserOAuth:off
defaults write/Library/Preferences/com.tableau.Tableau-<version>.plist Settings.WorkgroupUseEmbeddedBrowserServerSignIn-integer1
For LBLM sign-in, embedded browser is used even if you specify the external browser. This is by design.
