Tableau Azure AD Tenancy Requirements for Connectors Using OAuth

Publiceringsdatum: Mar 3, 2026
Uppgift

How to set up OAuth for OneDrive and SharePoint Online using single-tenant applications and how to confirm if a connector supports Azure AD single-tenant applications for Tableau connections.

Steg

In order to set up OAuth with single-tenant application with Tableau, you have to specify the following tenant-specific endpoint for the OAuth Instance URL or OAuth Endpoint when using a connector to SharePoint Lists (JDBC), OneDrive and SharePoint Online, Azure Synapse, Azure SQL Database, or Databricks. Those OAuth connectors support Azure AD single-tenant applications.

https://login.microsoftonline.com/<tenant-id>

If you are unable to specify the tenant-specific endpoint in the GUI option, the connector may not support single-tenant applications. It uses the /common Azure authentication endpoint and a multi-tenant Application is required.  Single-tenant application registrations are not currently supported with OAuth and the following connectors:

  • OneDrive and SharePoint Online, OneDrive (deprecated) with Tableau versions 2024.1 and earlier
  • Azure Data Lake Storage Gen2

Beginning with Tableau version 2024.2, the OneDrive and SharePoint Online connector support single-tenant and custom connections. For more information, see the Tableau Help on OneDrive and SharePoint Online.

Ytterligare resurser

By default, the connector uses the /common Azure authentication endpoint (https://login.microsoftonline.com/common) in order to be as broadly compatible as possible, and there is no provision in the connector for the user to specify a tenant-specific endpoint.

Usage of the /common endpoint precludes the use of single-tenant configured applications in Azure. You may see the following error in your Azure Active Directory logs when trying to use the connector with a single-tenant application:

"AADSTS50194: Application 'xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxxxx' is not configured as a multi-tenant application. Usage of the /common endpoint is not supported for such applications created after '10/15/2018'. Use a tenant-specific endpoint or configure the application to be multi-tenant."
