How to determine whether a published data source is an extract or a live connection.

  1. Download a workbook connected to that data source you are interested in from Tableau Server. For more information, see Work with Content Revisions in Tableau Help.
  2. Open the workbook in Tableau Desktop, and check the Data window for visual cues on whether the data source is an extract or a live connection. For more information, see Visual Cues and Icons in Tableau Desktop in Tableau Help.
