Are there any limitations when using the Advanced Definition Editor for creating metric definitions in Tableau Pulse?
Vaiheet
The key thing to note when using the Advanced Definition Editor is that this experience does not save anything back to Tableau.  It is an experience for users to supply Pulse the necessary information to save a definition.

Additionally, when using the Advanced Editor, it is important to keep in mind the following:
  1. If you make a calculation here and use it for Pulse, it will NOT be saved onto the data source
  2. This worksheet isn't being saved anywhere in Tableau.  It is a short-term experience.
  3. Table calculations are not supported.
  4. When you reopen the Advanced Editor, you will see that the "name" of the calculation that you brought into the shelves of the editor has changed.  This is expected.  But, the formula you used remains, so if changes need to be made, you can make those without issue.
  5. The grain of dates (ie., Year(date), Quarter(date)) are not considered but only the date dimension.
  6. Do not use Level of Detail (LOD) calcs that have a time element as part of the LOD in a way that will limit the dataset too tightly.  Pulse adds on it's own time logic when it produces content such as visualization and these types of calcs will cause problems.
    • Example: Creating a definition for “Last 7 Day Active Users” that restricts the data to just 7 days. In this example, when you return to Pulse and look for “Month to Date”, if the 7 days spans two months, you wouldn’t get content in Pulse. Similarly, a “Last Month” wouldn’t get content either if the 7 days were all in the current month.
  7. Formulas that use "ATTR" are not supported.
    • Example: SUM([Sales])/ATTR({EXCLUDE[Segment]:sum([Profit])})
  8. You are able to create a calculated field within the Advanced Editor and then use that calculated field in another calculated field to be used as a measure.
  9. Visual elements you may add to the chart in the Advanced Editor are not persisted or leveraged anywhere in Pulse (for example, reference or trend lines).
