Error: "tsm is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file" Occurs on Tableau Server Windows Installations

When running tsm commands on Tableau Server, the following error may occur:
 

tsm is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file
 

Cause

The Windows environment PATH variable should updated during the Tableau Server install to include the path to the Tableau Server bin folder. When this variable is not set post install, an error will occur when running tsm commands unless the commands are run from the bin folder itself.

 

Risoluzione
  1. Add the Tableau Server bin folder path to the PATH variable to ensure tsm commands can be run from any directory in the command window.
  2. To ensure the correct path, navigate using Windows File Explorer to the bin folder on Tableau Server and copy the path from the top of the window. The path is version specific. Following is an example path from a 2018.2 installation:
C:\Program Files\Tableau\Tableau Server\packages\bin.20182.18.0627.2230
