Error "The load was not able to complete successfully" When Opening .twbx File

When opening a Tableau packaged workbook (.twbx), publishing a workbook to Tableau Server, or copying a sheet from a large (~2GB or more) workbook, the following error may occur:

Error Occurred while trying to load the Workbook <file path>. The load was not able to load successfully.

Common messages associated with this issue and the above message include the following:

Error(<number>,<number>): no declaration found for element 'document-format-change-manifest' (id: <file path>)
Error(<number>,<number>): attribute 'column' is not declared for element 'manual-sort' (id: <file path>)
Error(<number>,<number>): attribute 'direction' is not declared for element 'manual-sort' (id: <file path>)

Error Code: A19C3D8C

Error opening archive file. Invalid twb or twbx file.

Cause

The Tableau workbook was saved in a newer version of Tableau than the version you are using to open the workbook.
