SSL Certificate Shows As Expired

After updating an SSL certificate, users on client machines receive a browser message that the connection is insecure and the old certificate is still being used.  SSL certificate shows as expired with the following error:
 

NET::ERR_CERT_DATE_INVALID
 
General tab for SSL on the client machine shows the following error, and the dates of the old certificate:
 
This certificate has expired or is not yet valid


The following are true for your instance:

  • 'SSL' tab on 'Configure Tableau Server' shows the new certificate
  • The details in the SSL tab are correct (certificate, key names, file path)
  • Both Tableau Server and the server machine have been restarted
  • Cache of the machine has been cleared and issue persists
  • Details for the new certificate saved in Tableau Server is valid/not expired

 

Cause

Proxy server was still using the expired certificate.

Ratkaisu

If the above criteria are true take the following steps:

  1. Access Tableau Server on the server machine using localhost in order to take any proxies or load balancers out of the equation.
  2. Confirm if the proxy server has a valid/not expired certificate.  If expired, update the certificate to resolve the issue with the client error.
