"Error Code 38348B38 Unable to connect to the file '[<file name>.txt]'" Occurs When Connecting to Text File Which Contains Only One Row

When trying to import a text file which contains only one row of data, the following error message occurs:

Unable to complete action
Unable to connect to the file "[<file name>.txt]". Check that the file exists and that you have sufficient access privileges for it.
Error Code: 38348B38
Text file has no lines
 

In earlier versions of Tableau, the error appeared as: 

 

An error occurred while communicating with the data source.
Unable to connect to the file "[<File Name>]". Check that the file exists and that you have sufficient access privileges for it.
Text file has no lines
The table "[TableauTemp].[<File Name>]" does not exist.
 
 

Cause

Tableau Desktop always reads the first row as a header. The result is, that Tableau Desktop considers the text file as not containing any rows.

 

Lösning
Add a header row to the text file.
