Unexpected error" and Failure to Import Active Directory User into Tableau Server

When importing an Active Directory user into Tableau Server, the error "unexpected error" occurs and the user import fails.

Additionally, in vizportal log, the following error is can be found:

vizportal: ERROR com.tableausoftware.api.webclient.util.BatchedActionExecutor - Exception raised by call target for key <username>: null
java.lang.NullPointerException

Cause

UPN (userPrincipalName) is not set.
Ratkaisu
Work with your Tableau Server Administrator to set UPN (userPrincipalName) for Active Directory user.
Lisäresurssit
Users without UPN can be successfully queried via ldp.exe.
