Error "The dataset contains multiple values for a single cell. Only the first value will be displayed [...]" After Attempting to use the Export Crosstab to Excel Option

When exporting a view using the option "Crosstab to Excel", the following error might occur and the export in Excel will not contain all data:


"Warning: "The dataset contains multiple values for a single cell. Only the first value will be displayed. Please consult the help index entry on "overlapping text" for clarification."

Cause

There are multiple values in a single cell in Tableau Desktop. 

Решение

The following steps can be reproduced in the attached sample workbook Only the first value.twbx downloadable from the attachments section below. 

  1. Create calculation field using the INDEX() formula.
  2. Convert  this newly created calculated field to Discrete from the Measures pane.
  3. Drag the calculated field to Rows, next to the dimension Category.
  4. Right-click the calculated field from Rows and select Compute Using > Order Date
  5. Then, export the worksheet as a crosstab to Excel
