Backgrounders Showing as Busy in TS Web UI Status page

Backgrounders constantly showing busy in the TSM Web user interface status page. Additionally, you may notice that many jobs including "cleanup crashed backgrounder jobs" are stuck in pending status. 

Cause

Encrypted SMTP connections are not supported. 
Ratkaisu
As a Tableau Server Administrator, remove encrypted SMTP settings and restart Tableau Server. After all the pending jobs were completed the backgrounders returned to being active.
