Registration Box Pops up Every Time Tableau Desktop is Opened

Date de publication: Feb 24, 2026
Description
After installing Tableau Desktop successfully. Every time a user opens Tableau Desktop, the registration window pops up and the register button is greyed out.

Cause

The Tableau Desktop user must be an administrator user on their own computer to use Tableau Desktop. Not being an administrator, prevents them from writing to Windows registry and add the registration values. Hence Tableau Desktop keeps prompting every time.
Résolution

Change the user permissions so the user is an administrator of their own computer.
This is about the issue with the Register button greyed due to the lack of administrator permission. If you have the permission, you should be able to register it. If the registration screen pops up every time after successful registration, it is a different issue.
Check if Tableau Desktop is installed and running in a persistent environment. If the roaming profile is not used, the registry information may not be saved properly and this issue may occur.
