Error: “tabcrashreporter.exe Exited With Non-Zero Exit Code” When Issuing Send-Logs Command Behind Forward Proxy

Description

In environments where Tableau Server is behind a forward proxy, attempts to run the send-logs command fail due to missing proxy settings in the tabcrashreporter process. Unlike other Tableau Server processes, tabcrashreporter does not inherit proxy settings from tabadmincontroller and must be explicitly configured to use the proxy.

Cause:

• tabcrashreporter.exe (Server Crash Reporter) requires its own proxy configuration.

• It does not automatically inherit proxy settings from the Tableau Server environment or parent processes.

• As a result, network requests (e.g., sending crash reports) fail due to an inability to connect to external Tableau services.

Résolution

To resolve this issue, manually configure tabcrashreporter with the correct proxy settings.

1. The following configuration keys need to be set. 

servercrashupload.proxy_server_host
If a proxy server is used to communicate with the internet, specify the host name.

servercrashupload.proxy_server_port
If a proxy server is used to communicate with the internet, specify the port number.

servercrashupload.proxy_server_username
If a proxy server requires authentication, specify the user name with this key.

servercrashupload.proxy_server_password
If a proxy server requires authentication, specify the password with this key.


2. After setting the above configuration keys, restart the Tableau Server with pending-changes apply command.
