Prior to version 2021.4, it was not possible to remove an ATR activated license from Tableau Server via TSM.
Perform the steps listed in the Tableau Online Help to deactivate Tableau Server keys via TSM. This process will return the activation capacity immediately for use on another Tableau Server installation.
Here are the steps if Tableau Server is at version 2021.3 or older:
You can remove product key(s) that were activated using Server ATR manually. Please note that the below steps only removes the license from the Tableau Server machine and does not immediately free up the capacity to activate the same key(s) on another Tableau Server machine. The procedure listed below will stop the product key(s) from being refreshed and after the ATR duration has lapsed, the keys can be used again on another machine.
This procedure removes all product keys activated using Server ATR on the specified Tableau Server. It is not possible to only remove a specific license prior to 2021.4. If the goal is to remove one old product key from a set of keys, perform the steps below to remove all keys and then re-activate the correct set of keys or key desired.
On the initial node, open a command prompt as administrator, and then use the following commands.
Stop Administration Controller Manager (tabadmincontroller):
net stop tabadmincontroller_0
Use the following atrdiag command to view activated product keys and locate the UUID. [The following command applies to both Tableau Server on Windows and Linux]
atrdiag -product "Tableau Server"
Copy the UUID field from the top of the ATRDIAG output to delete the ATR lease containing all activated product keys: [The following command applies to both Tableau Server on Windows and Linux]
Note: You cannot remove an individual product key from an ATR lease.
atrdiag -deleteATR <UUID> -product "Tableau Server"
Start Administration Controller Manager (tabadmincontroller) if it isn't already running:
net start tabadmincontroller_0
Activate a new set of product keys on this machine if desired.
Restart Tableau Server.
