Tableau Desktop Takes a Long Time to Open

Description
When starting Tableau Desktop, it takes a very long time to load the main Start Page. During this time progress bars are shown indicating creation of views, even though no workbooks have been loaded.

Cause

One of the Recently Opened previews is likely taking a long time to load and slowing down the entire process.
Resolution
Remove the Recently Opened previews by clicking the X in the upper right corner of each of them.
