Cannot Access Administrative Views Even When The PostgreSQL Driver Has Been Installed On Linux

When accessing the Administrative Views (Admin Views), the following errors occurs even if the PostgreSQL driver has been installed on Linux:

Unable to connect to the data source.
The drivers required to connect to the data source are not installed.

An unexpected error occurred.  If you continue to receive this error please contact your Tableau Server Administrator.

 

Cause

This error occurs for the following causes:
  • wrong version installed
  • installed in the wrong location
  • folder location does not have the correct permissions
Løsning

Follow the below steps to check the PostgreSQL driver version, location and permissions:

  1. Make sure the current PostgreSQL driver on the Driver Download page has been download
  2. The driver should be located in the /opt/tableau/tableau_driver/jdbc path (one of the most common failures)
  3. Change the folder and file to the "tableau" user with the following commands:
    • sudo chown tableau:tableau /opt/tableau/tableau_driver
    • sudo chown tableau:tableau /opt/tableau/tableau_driver/jdbc
    • sudo chown tableau:tableau postgresql-<version>.jar
  4. Run "tsm restart" to restart Tableau Server.
