When connecting to the SharePoint Lists using 'Username/Password' authentication, the following error may occur:
 

Error Code: 4B987496 
Client unable to establish connection. Unrecognized response when getting SharePoint online security cookies, please check your credentials.
 

Cause

SSO is used to connect to Office 365 outside of Tableau and SSO is not configured correctly in Tableau to connect to Office 365. (Username/Password is used)
Username and password cannot be used to connect to Office 365 from Tableau if SSO is used to connect to 365.

 
 

Løsning

This error is a Microsoft error and if you are using SSO for Office 365 you will have to add the SSO connection to your trusted sites under your internet settings:

  1. Windows Control Panel > Internet Settings >  Security > Trusted Sites
  2. Add  Sharepoint.<Company Name>.com and this will fix the issue.
