Error "Tableau Server initialization failed" during Installation With Anti-Virus

Description
When installing Tableau Server, the following error occurs:
Tableau Server initialization failed

Additionally, tabadmin.log contains the following error:
Error deploying new vizportal war file.

Cause

Anti-virus is blocking the file copy of  *.WAR files and *.JAR files from the program folder to the data folder.
Résolution

Work with your IT to ensure that the following directories are excluded from antivirus scans: 

Windows

  • C:\Program Files\Tableau\Tableau Server
  • C:\ProgramData\Tableau\Tableau Server

Linux

  • /opt/tableau/tableau_server
  • /var/opt/tableau/tableau_server

Note: If you installed Tableau Server in a custom location, the directory will be different. For example: E:\Tableau\Tableau Server, /data/tableau_server
