Description
When trying to start Tableau Desktop after installing the application, the following error may occur:
 
tableau.exe - Application Error
The application was unable to start correctly (0xc000007b). Click OK to close the application.

Cause

Error code 0xc000007b is a Windows error message not specific to Tableau Desktop. This error code generally occurs due to absence or damage of some system or application files. 

Other reasons for this error include: interrupted installation of updates, incorrect shutdown of the computer or deletion of programs directly from the installation folder. In addition, the error can be related with some damage in the files of the following programs: Microsoft Visual C++, Direct X and .NET Framework.
Resolution
Work with your IT team to perform the following troubleshooting: 
  • Run the Tableau Desktop installer as an administrator 
  • Ensure that Windows is up to date and there are no damaged or missing system files
