Stored Procedures and Table Functions are Missing When Connecting to Oracle

Publiseringsdato: Mar 12, 2025
Beskrivelse

When connecting to an Oracle data source in Tableau Desktop, Stored Procedures may not appear, while Table Functions can be used if properly configured.

Cause

  • Tableau does not support Stored Procedures from Oracle as they do not return data in a format compatible with Tableau.
  • Table Functions, which return data in table format, can be used instead.
  • The Oracle user must have the appropriate permissions to access the Table Functions.
  • Functions created in the SYS schema will not be displayed in Tableau.

Løsning
  • While Stored Procedures cannot be used in Tableau Desktop, Table Functions can be used as an alternative. To ensure Table Functions appear in Tableau Desktop under the ‘Stored Procedures’ section:

    1. The Oracle user credentials used for the connection must have explicit access to the Table Function.
    2. The Table Function must not be created in the SYS schema, as objects in this schema are restricted from appearing in Tableau.
