Error "Your account is temporarily locked" Occurs Repeatedly After Resetting Tableau Cloud Account Password

When logging into Tableau Cloud, an error may occur:

"Your account is temporarily locked. To continue, click Forgot password".


Additionally, resetting the password with the Forgot password link allows access temporarily, but after a certain amount of time, the account becomes locked again.

 

Cause

A scripted or automated process is attempting to log into Tableau Cloud with an invalid password, causing periodic lockouts of the Tableau Cloud account.

Løsning
  1. If the account is locked, use the "forgot password" link on the page to reset the account's password. Resetting the password will remove the account lockout immediately.
  2. Work with your IT Team to identify the scripted or automated process that is attempting to log in with an invalid password, and take corrective action as appropriate to the type of process. Examples include:
    1. Tableau Bridge - To correct this issue when caused by Tableau Bridge, use the following steps:
      1. Ensure that you can log into Tableau Cloud. If the account is currently locked, reset the password first.
      2. Log into the computer where Tableau Bridge is running. If unsure which computer is running it, log into Tableau Cloud through the web browser and go to the Settings page. At the bottom of the page is a list of computers with active Tableau Bridge connections.
      3. From the system tray, right-click the Tableau Bridge icon and choose Unlink.
      4. When the unlinking is complete, right-click the Tableau bridge icon and choose Exit.
      5. Open Tableau Desktop and go to Server > Start Tableau Bridge client.
      6. When prompted, sign into Tableau Cloud using a valid credential.

    4. Tableau Data Extract Command-Line Utility
      • To correct the issue when caused by Tabcmd, REST API, or Tableau Data Extract Command-Line Utility, update the script to use the correct password.
