Julkaisupäivä: Feb 24, 2026
Kuvaus
When trying to overwrite an existing workbook on Tableau Server by publishing a workbook with the same name to the same project, a Not enough permissions error may occur.

Cause

The Tableau Server user does not have sufficient permissions on the existing workbook.
Ratkaisu

The procedures below can be carried out by the following people:

  • Server or site administrator
  • Current owner of the workbook
  • Project leader for the project that contains the workbook

Option 1: Give Editor-level permissions on the existing workbook to the Tableau Server user

  1. On the Content page for a site, select Workbooks.
  2. Select the check box for the existing workbook, and then select Actions > Permissions.
  3. Add a user or group rule, or edit an existing rule, so that the user has Editor-level permissions.

Option 2: Change the owner of the existing workbook to the user

  1. On the Content page for a site, select Workbooks.
  2. Select the check box for the existing workbook, and then select Actions > Change Owner.
  3. Type the name of the user or select the user from the list.
  4. Click Change Owner.

If the user is still unable to publish the workbook, see Error "You do not have permission to publish to this server" Publishing Workbook.
