When refreshing an MS SQL Server extract on Tableau Server, the following error might occur:
[Microsoft][SQL Server Native Client 11.0][SQL Server]Login failed for user 'domain\username$'.
Invalid username or password.
The authentication option chosen for the affected connection is using the Tableau Server Run As user account. However, the Run As user is a local machine account and does not have access to the SQL Server database.
Option 1
Change the Run As user account to a domain account that as access to the MS SQL Server database.
Option 2
Change the data connection so that it uses SQL authentication and embedded password.
Usernames ending in a dollar sign ($) are managed service accounts and an indicator the NT AUTHORITY\NetworkService account is being used as the Run As user account.
