Error "SMTP host is unreachable" in Background Tasks when Subscriptions Should Send

Scheduled subscription emails might not send as expected and when reviewing background tasks, the following error might correspond to those failures:

com.tableausoftware.model.workgroup.service.subscriptions.SubscriptionRunner$SMTPServerException: SMTP host unreachable

Cause

Tableau Server is unable to reach the SMTP host.
Ratkaisu
Work with your IT team to ensure that the computer running Tableau Server can access the SMTP host.
