Google Analytics Metrics Return 0 Values

When building a view using Google Analytics (GA), some metrics may return 0 values even though the fields were not greyed out from the data source pane.

Cause

The dimension(s) and measure(s) used are not compatible with each other.

Ratkaisu

Ensure that the metrics and dimensions being pulled into Tableau are compatible. For example, the following combination will return 0 values:

  • Goal completion metric showing the overall time a user spent on site
  • "Page" dimensions showing the URL of the page visited

Use the Google Analytics Query Explorer to test queries before bringing them in to the Tableau product.
