Microsoft SQL Server Text Fields Have a 1024-Character Limit

Description

When a Microsoft SQL Server text dimension is used in a Tableau Desktop view, only 1024 characters display.

This character limit is specific to Microsoft SQL Server. Character limits vary depending on the database and driver combination.

Resolution

Try one of the following workarounds:

Connect to SQL Server using a generic ODBC connection. On the Connect to Data page, select Other Databases (ODBC).
Change the field type in the MS SQL Server database to VARCHAR(MAX) or NVARCHAR(MAX)
