Error "Could not connect to the server" Connecting to Redshift

When you try to connect to Amazon Redshift, one of the following errors might occur:
 
TableauException: could not connect to the server: Connection timed out (0x0000274C/10060) Is the server running on host "<hostname>" (<IP address>) and accepting TCP/IP connections on port <port number>? Unable to connect to the server "<server name>". Check that the server is running that that you have access privileges to the requested database.

Or
 
Could not connect to the server;

A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond.
[<IP address:Port>]

Unable to connect to the server "<Redshift server name>". Check that the server is running and that you have access privileges to the requested database.

Unable to connect to the server. Check that the server is running and that you have access privileges to the requested database.

Cause

The computer running Tableau Desktop or Tableau Server does not have adequate permissions, or does not have the correct Redshift driver, or the IP address for the computer running Redshift is not on approved address list.
Ratkaisu
One or more of the following troubleshooting steps might resolve the issue:

For Tableau Desktop and Tableau Server

  • Work with your IT team to ensure that the computer running Tableau Desktop or Tableau Server has the appropriate permissions to communicate with the computer running Amazon Redshift.
  • On the computer running Tableau Desktop or Tableau Server, download and install the Amazon Redshift driver from the Tableau Drivers & Activation page.
  • Work with your IT team to add the IP address of the computer running Tableau Desktop or Tableau Server to your approved address list in Amazon Redshift.

For Tableau Cloud

  • Work with your IT team to add the IP address of the Tableau Cloud server to your approved address list in Amazon Redshift. For more information, see the "Tableau Cloud whitelist IP addresses" section of the Keep Data Fresh page.
  • Ensure the URL or IP address of the RedShift server is publicly accessible. If the URL resolves to one of the following IP addresses, the server is not publicly accessible: 10.0.0.0 – 10.255.255.255.
