Error "Named Pipes Provider: The specified network name is no longer available" Creating Extract

Description

When creating a large extract, the one of the following errors might occur:
 

SQL Server database error 0x80004005: Protocol error in TDS stream
SQL Server database error 0x80004005: Communication link failure
SQL Server daabase error 0x80004005: Named Pipes Provider: The specified network name is no longer available

Unable to create extract

 
Or:

[Microsoft][SQL Server Native Client 10.0]Named Pipes Provider: The specified network name is no longer available.
[Microsoft][SQL Server Native Client 10.0]Communication link failure.
Resolution
This error is not specific to Tableau, and it has no single resolution. The following is a list of troubleshooting steps.
 
Work with your database administrator to do the following:-
  • Pull the query from the Tableau Desktop log files, and run the query in the database using a different program. For more information about pulling the query, see Viewing Underlying SQL Queries.
  • If the query fails, work with your database administrator to determine why the extract is failing. If the query runs successfully, contact Tableau Support for further troubleshooting.
