Nine-Digit ZIP Codes (ZIP+4) Unrecognized

Udgivelsesdato: Feb 24, 2026
Beskrivelse
When you try to map data using nine-digit ZIP codes (ZIP+4) in the 12345-6789 format, Tableau Desktop might not correctly identify latitude and longitude values, and the ZIP codes might not appear on the map.

Cause

When geocoding, Tableau Desktop only recognizes five-digit ZIP codes.
Løsning
Create a calculated field to convert the nine-digit ZIP codes to five-digit ZIP codes.
  1. Select Analysis > Create Calculated Field.
  2. In the Calculated Field dialog box that opens, do the following and then click OK:
    • Name the calculated field. For example, Short ZIP Code.
    • In the formula field, type the following, where ZIP Code is the name of the dimension:
      LEFT([ZIP Code], 5)
  3. Right-click Short ZIP Code and select Geographic Role > ZIP Code/Postcode.
  4. Use the new Short ZIP Code Short field instead of the original ZIP Code dimension in any map view.
