Error "Setup Wizard ended prematurely" Upgrading

When you try to upgrade Tableau Desktop, the following error might occur:

Tableau <version> Setup Wizard ended prematurely

Tableau <version> setup ended prematurely because of an error. Your system has not been modified. To install this program at a later time, please run the installation again.

Click the finish button to exit Setup.

Cause

An earlier version of Tableau Desktop did not get removed successfully.
Lösning
The following troubleshooting steps might resolve the issue.

Step 1: Perform a clean installation of Tableau Desktop

  1. In Control Panel, click Programs and Features, and then uninstall Tableau Desktop.
  2. Backup and then delete C:\Users\<username>\Documents\My Tableau Repository.
  3. Delete the following folder: C:\Program Files\Tableau
  4. Restart the computer running Tableau Desktop.
  5. Download a new Tableau Desktop installer.
  6. Right-click the Tableau Desktop installation file, and then select Run as administrator.

Step 2: Re-install the previous version of Tableau Desktop 

If you still get an error after following the procedure in Step 1, use the following procedure:
  1. Perform steps 1-3 in the above procedure.
  2. Download the installer for the version of Tableau Desktop that you previously installed.
  3. Right-click the Tableau Desktop installation file for the previous version, and then select Run as administrator.
  4. If the installation is successful, download the new version of Tableau Desktop, and upgrade to that version. For more information, see Upgrade Tableau Desktop in the Tableau Knowledge Base.
